Our Mission

Making the choice to enrol in Cadets is usually a quick and seemingly simple decision. A decision that lasts the mere seconds it takes to sign your name, then have a parent/guardian sign theirs. But the impact of becoming part of the Cadet program is long lasting. Friendships form at the local headquarters level that last a lifetime; and while away at summer training centres, friendships that span the country, from sea to sea to sea.

Becoming a Cadet with 538 ‘Buffalo’ Squadron will grant you three things: knowledge of the history and operational structure of the Canadian Armed Forces (specifically the Royal Canadian Air Force - but don’t worry: our resident Army officer will teach you that history too!), becoming better citizens of Canada, and promoting physical fitness to lead a healthier lifestyle. We pride ourselves in having a staff with diverse backgrounds, each bringing a unique view of these three aims, which means our cadets get unique stories and experiences and eliminates instructional bias in classes. Of course, these are the three aims of the Cadet Program. We do all of that in a fun, safe, educational, and positive environment. Become a Cadet, and be part of Canada’s best kept secret.

More than just a Tuesday night

“I joined cadets in 1999 when I turned 12, retiring seven years later as a Master Warrant Officer ( or WO2 in Air Cadet speak) and the Regimental Sergeant Major. The skills I learned as a cadet have prepared me for my life. Learning instructional techniques directly impacted my job as a Flight Instructor, and the discipline and leadership training has been invaluable as an airline pilot.”

— Captain Lee J. Keller, 538 ‘Buffalo’ Squadron Training Officer and Captain with Air Canada Express.
